Here is a common concept of manager heaven:

“It’s a place I’ll go after I’ve worked real, real hard, solved all these problems, got everything in order and never have another headache… I’ll just cruise on and be a happy manager….forever.”

OK, that’s nice.

Though I personally feel this is not what we have in store for us.

Maybe I’m wrong here.

However, I feel that if we believe in manager heaven we’ve fallen prey to the belief that if we get better and stronger at what we do, problems and challenges will go away.

And we’re working crazy, real hard to get there.

“If I just get over this next hill of problems and headaches, manager heaven might be there waiting for me.”

I really wished it worked that way.

I don’t think it does and hustling and thinking this way just leads to exhaustion and resentment.

On the other hand if we find joy with adventure and learning, in taking on a challenge, harvesting the growth and stair stepping up to the next one, then hey, have I got a job for you.

Because with this job, your joy and happiness will never end.

Manageing is not wondering how I eventually get rid of all these headaches.

Manageing is: “I can’t wait to get through these small ones so I’ll be ready for some real big one’s later on…I’m going to learn a lot!”

It’s like everything else in life.

Our real joy is in growing and becoming.

And that comes with challenges.

And challenges never end.

Journey well.
