{"id":2070,"date":"2022-11-30T19:21:05","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T19:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/merrimanmanagementsupport.com\/?post_type=project&#038;p=2070"},"modified":"2022-11-30T19:25:31","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T19:25:31","slug":"working-words-nov-30th","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"http:\/\/merrimanmanagementsupport.com\/index.php\/project\/working-words-nov-30th\/","title":{"rendered":"Working words Sept 1st"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>As I see it, when you become a manager, you really need to dial-in how you act and communicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you move up into management, there&#8217;s no way you can talk to someone, who was once a peer co-worker, the same way now that you&#8217;re in charge of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;re in a whole different type of relationship now.&nbsp; You&#8217;re in charge of directing and getting the work moved forward.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we need to focus on that and tweak our talk a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s an example &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a difference between saying&nbsp;<em>&#8220;how&#8217;s it going<\/em>?&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;and saying how&#8217;s it going with and name something specific. For instance,&nbsp;<em>&#8220;how&#8217;s it going with the load?<\/em>&nbsp;(or cleaning the case, or making today&#8217;s salads?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latter is more focused, specific and implies moving the work forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just that small tweak can really keep the work on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s another one-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;We have 2 people out today, what&nbsp;a hassle, do what you can.<\/em>&#8221;&nbsp; Maybe change that around to &#8211;&nbsp;<em>&#8220;We have 2 people out today, what&#8217;s your thoughts on how we can get the load done?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you have a dynamic conversation going that can roll into possibilities for action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s so many of these little changes you can make in your communication with staff that can make a big difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I actually&nbsp;think it&#8217;s fun to come up with them.&nbsp; Think of a statement and change it around a bit to focus and energize it.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s those little day-to-day habits that compound and make managing an uplifting and rewarding experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I see it, when you become a manager, you really need to dial-in how you act and communicate.
