I just worry that I&#8217;m expecting too much&#8221;<br \/>\nThese and similar questions cause confusions that are tough on managers.<br \/>\nIt is no fun to feel uncertain and wonder if we are \u201cmanaging wrong\u201d.<br \/>\nOften as managers we can mistakenly misinterpret an employee\u2019s upset, or their inability to follow policies or perform their job correctly as a signal that we are being trivial, unfair, or unreasonable.<br \/>\nAnd we start spinning all over the place.<br \/>\nHere&#8217;s the thing&#8230;<br \/>\nBasically, we all want to feel like our staff has faith in our leadership.<br \/>\nThat they see we have clear sightedness, good intentions and effective decision making.<br \/>\nNow I want you to write this next sentence down.<br \/>\nNo-one can give this to you until you have given it to yourself.<br \/>\nWhen you come to rest within yourself as a leader your staff will feel that foundation.<br \/>\nThat doesn&#8217;t mean that they won&#8217;t try every blow-back trick in the book, but they&#8217;ll feel your calm steadiness and resolve.<br \/>\nThis cuts down considerably on the duration of their attempted disruption.<br \/>\nThey might grumble and walk away but you&#8217;ll be out of the weeds of self-doubt.<br \/>\nHow do we get there?<br \/>\nFocus on walking the steady steps of management.<br \/>\nState clear expectations.<br \/>\nState clearly negative behaviors or performance that are impacting the co-op.<br \/>\nWork from objective, observable facts.<br \/>\nFrom day one connect, chat and communicate often in order to guide.<br \/>\nAnd let&#8217;s remember only you can flip that switch for yourself that anoints you as a good and reasonable manager.<br \/>\nWe have it in us.<br \/>\nI know we do.<br \/>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8221; Am I being unreasonable?
